Mr. Tea
This is a quick little project I threw together in about a day and a half. Most college students have a Mr. Coffee maker in their room. I don’t like coffee, so I made Mr. Tea.
It’s made from a bunch of old computer parts and has a magnetic stirrer on one side (so I don’t have to dirty up spoons and wash them) and a hot plate on the other. The magnetic stirrer is just a PC fan with a hard driver magnet attached. It vibrates a little since it’s almost impossible to get the mass of the magnet centered exactly. But lab stirrers are between $80-$200, so I don’t mind. Plus you can adjust the speed to where it doesn’t vibrate a lot. The hot plate can get hot enough to boil water, so I added control for that too. It’s a pretty simple little deal, but depending on how bored I am in the near future, I could add a microcontroller to monitor temperature or something.
