Hardware
List and approximate prices of all hardware used:
-PowerWheels car: free (was sitting in my neighbors yard and they didn’t want it. When looking for one, also try Craigslist and FreeCycle and yard sales. These cars are like $300 new, but kids outgrow them and parents just want to get rid of them).
-Two 3-12v Johnson motors: $3 each. We got ours from allelectronics.com
-Two 19 tooth, 32 pitch gears: $4 each. Picked up at local hobby shop.
-Four lock collars (7/16″ ID): $.75 each from McMaster-Carr
One large plate type caster: free (we managed to mooch one off of our old high school. They had used them on the carts that marching band uses to pull out percussion equipment). You should also be able to get them online or at home depot for maybe $15.
-Scrap 3/4″ plywood: free. Sitting in my garage. Anything that is flat and can hold a decent amount of weight will do.
Tools: Dremel, drill, vice, hacksaw, screwdrivers, pliers, jigsaw.
