Electronics
Electronics and approximate prices:
Changes in Version .9:
-A Sabertooth 2×25 motor controller from Dimention Engineering: $125
-Several Vex motors: $20
-Several Cold Cathodes and some EL wire: $10 for EL wire, got cold cathodes from old scanners
-small speakers and amplifier: $20, my friend had one that we used
-12v 4ah batteries: free, got them from some fried battery backups
Version .5:
-Arduino Duemilanove: $20 from Trossen Robotics
-Two BaneBots 3A, 9A peak motor controllers: $30 each from Trossen Robotics
-Acer Aspire One: $200. I got this for Christmas, so I didn’t really include it in the project cost because I use it for tons of other stuff.
-Two 1 ohm 15 watt resistors: $.60 each from Mouser electronics
-Heat sink and Perf board: free. I had these in my box-o-electronics. You can get heat sinks off of broken electronics or old motherboards and RadioShack has perf boards (but they are cheaper from somewhere like Mouser).
-Project box: free. I had a metal sprinkler timer box that worked great. Really any kind of box or enclosure will work.
-12v 18ah battery: $35 from amazon.com
-USB cable for Arduino: free. I stole the one from my printer, so now whenever someone wants to print, I have to stop testing code
. I plan to get one for about $5 online somewhere. Doesn’t need to be very long.
-Webcam: free (sorta). I had one at my house for Skype. They run about $20.
