Course Work
Here’s a list of the classes I’ve taken so far, with more detail on my favorites.
Calculus I, II, III, Differential Equations
I liked learning about modeling in differential equations. After about a month in that class, we had learned enough to model a zombie outbreak, amongst other things. So that was cool. The rest of the class was dedicated to developing my toolbox of ways to solve differential equations.
English I & II
In English I, we did a service learning project with Project Open Hand, an organization that provides healthy meals for the disabled in Atlanta. I filmed and edited an instructional video for them to show to new volunteers. The idea was that instead of needing a person to give the same 15 minute talk over and over, they could just show the video to batches of volunteers. English II focused on linguistics. We studied the reasons behind different languages, how they were related, and how they are born. We even got to take a closer look at invented languages like Na’vi (from Avatar) and Klingon (from Star Trek). My work from that class can be seen in our final project, a web portfolio.
CS 1372
This class was on programming in C, however our professor took a different approach. Rather than develop for Windows, we developed for Gameboy Advance. The final project was a video game.
Digital Design Lab
This has been my favorite class so far. We developed on the Cyclone II FPGA and also made a couple logic circuits on breadboards. We built a processor in VHDL and then the final project was making a presentation timer on top of the Nios II processor. You can see the presentation my group gave here:
VIP Program
I am now a member of the eWorkforce team in the Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) program. I will be working on developing long distance collaboration tools and start in Fall ’10. The team has a lot of really cool resources like several distance learning classrooms and lots of HD camera gear and TVs. It’s basically making a Skype on steroids. I’ll be choosing what specific part of the project I’ll be working on within the first couple weeks.
Concert Band
I play the trombone and guitar, and whenever I can fit it in my schedule I take concert band. I usually play 2nd trombone.
